Unbasic Creatives

Join me in Salt Lake City, Utah from October 11-12 for two days of learning, growing, portfolio building, and connecting!

the art of connection workshop

You're invited:

For many years now, I've had the privilege of hosting photographers who travel to Boise to shoot alongside me in private mentorships. It's always a highlight of my season, and those connections I've made in person are ones I always hold dear!

Now, I am so excited to be able to bring this experience to a group setting in an incredibly beautiful area: Salt Lake City, Utah.

The experience of shooting together and watching important ideas and practices come to life in real time is incredibly empowering - and combining that with building connections and community with fellow creatives is the cherry on top!

The Art of Connection Workshop is for photographers who want real growth, practical, hands-on education, and who want a major portfolio level-up fast. Our two days together will be filled with learning, creating, growing, and connecting - and I can't wait!

We'll dig deep into how I direct families, work with challenging kids, create beauty from chaos, work in all kind of lighting conditions, cull and edit, and so much more. This event will include not just our two days together in person, but also two virtual calls as well! It's an incredible investment into your own business - one that will equip you, encourage you, and empower you.

There's no substitute for hands-on learning.

workshop info:

· Pre-workshop group call first week of October ·
· Workshop: October 11-12th, 2024 ·
· Follow-up group call first week of November ·

The exact schedule will be released to attendees closer to the workshop. You can expect Friday to run from around 2pm-9pm, and Saturday to run from around 10am-9pm. There will be breaks for downtime scheduled into our days.

The pace of this workshop will be relaxed and fun. Full, yes! But not rushed or stressful in any way. As a busy mom, it's essential for me to create space for rest in order for my creativity to flourish. You can expect the same for our time together!

01. schedule

Before the workshop, we'll meet as a group virtually so you can ask all of your pre-workshop questions and know what to expect - and know that you're showing up in SLC to familiar faces! The workshop itself includes two full days of learning and shooting together. We will photograph 4-5 sessions together, and spend lots of time covering all kinds of important topics, going over your questions, etc.

Snacks will be provided both days, and at least one meal will be provided each day (exact details will be shared when the schedule is finalized). Accommodations and transportation are not included, but I will connect attendees after the workshop is booked so that you can make plans together if you'd like to!

We will also meet for a two hour virtual group call 2-3 weeks after the workshop, so I can answer questions and check in with everyone!

02. what's included

This workshop is centered around what I teach in my course, The Art of Connection. Our focus will mainly be how to direct families, how to create beauty no matter the chaos, and all of the topics that go along with that like composition, making moms look gorgeous, etc.

We'll also address hot topics like lighting (indoors and outdoors!) and we'll have ample time to edit together. If you're ready to level up your images and creativity, this workshop is IT.

Of course, I also have plenty of time planned for questions of all types. Want to talk business, pricing structures, marketing, social media, or anything else? There's time scheduled in for lots of conversation about whatever you need support in right now.

03. topics

No one needs to be just like me, but you'll be able to watch me in action and see how I keep my approach simple yet highly effective. I will lead our shoots so you can watch me work - and then I'll make space for you to create as well. Expect 4-5 sessions, including family, motherhood, and maternity.

I want you to go home with images that feel like your own, not just ones that look like I set them up for you or that scream 'workshop!' because they're overly styled. I won't include lots of props or be focused on planning unbelievable sessions. Instead, I will be creating very real setups that are beautiful yet also repeatable by you. We'll shoot both indoors and outdoors, so you'll have space to hone your skills and build your portfolio in a variety of settings.

You can count on learning AND content.

04. our shoots

I don't like rushing. I don't like early mornings. I don't like fighting to get a good shot. This workshop is designed so you can opt-out of all of the stresses and focus on learning, connecting, growing, and enjoying a weekend together.

There will be a max of 15 attendees, and our pace will be relaxed, with downtime built into our schedule. Need a reset after working and socializing all day? Me too, don't worry!

Come as you are, friend. Whether you're excited about your business right now, or barely getting by. This is a space to show up as yourself, one where you'll always find real support, practical skill building, and authentic connection.

05. more details

You can join me for two full days of learning and portfolio building, plus two group meetings (the pre-workshop call and our post-workshop followup) for just $1495. A nonrefundable retainer of $498 is due to reserve your seat, and the balance is due by October 4th. You are welcome to use Afterpay, Affirm, and Klarna at checkout. If a situation arises that prevents you from attending, your ticket is transferable.

Education without improvement is just a waste of time. The goal for our time together is of course for you to level up your images, build a gorgeous portfolio, get all of your questions answered, etc. - but also to make changes that enable you to increase your own pricing and earn your investment back many times over.

*Past and present Unbasic Creatives coaching students receive 50% off.

"The money that I invested in working with Hannah is the best money spent in my whole photography career."

Have questions? I've got answers!

Nope! I do highly recommend TAOC course, because the level of detail it covers is incredible. If you purchase the course, you'll come to the workshop more prepared than ever, and you'll go home with all of the most important information always at your fingertips.

Neither replaces the other. Ideally, I recommend both, and you can purchase the course for a discount when you book your spot for the workshop. Either way, you are absolutely welcome at the workshop even if you do not purchase the course!

Q: Do I need to have The Art of Connection Course to come to this workshop?

Q: Is this a content creation workshop, or just focused on watching you shoot?

Q: Is there support for after the workshop is over?

Q: I have dietary restrictions, allergies, health concerns, etc. Can I participate?

This workshop provides space for both. Instruction and observation are hugely important for learning - but so is being an active participant and trying new things! You'll get tons of guidance and time where I lead, as well as time where you can step in, direct, and get creative if you want to. You'll do so much more than just shoot over my shoulder! You can expect to go home with tons of beautiful new images for your portfolio.

Yes! I'll be hosting a group call for all attendees around 2-3 weeks after the workshop. This will be a time to ask questions that arise after the workshop is over as you go back to work, and check in about anything else photo-related!

Absolutely! As someone who has been through chronic migraines, difficult pregnancies, and many dietary restrictions through the years to manage my health, I never want your physical wellness to be a limiting factor. Some meals and snacks will be provided, but we'll discuss any concerns beforehand and you'll be sure to have food that works for you.

Part of the reason I do not provide accommodations or cater all meals is that this often only works for some people. I want to create space for rest, time to recharge and care for your health, etc. I missed out on a lot over the years due to these challenges, and my goal is to make this work well even for those who have to pay extra attention for the ways they care for themselves.

Q: How experienced do I need to be for this workshop?

Any level of experience! This workshop is designed for professional photographers who already know how to operate their cameras, understand the basics of lighting, and have some experience directing families. However, this is a great fit whether you're just kicking off your career, or have been at this for years but want to continue growing and pushing yourself creatively.

Q: Do I need to rent a car if I fly into SLC?

Probably yes. I have made a conscious effort to minimize drive time so we can maximize learning and growing and fun. But like most cities, the best locations to shoot are somewhat spread out. I will be connecting attendees to one another after booking, so there's always the possibility of sharing accommodations, car rentals, Uber/Lyfts, or rides with local attendees.

Q: What will we learn/what topics will we cover?

We're going to focus on all of the steps required to create gorgeous images from the wonderful chaos in front of us. That means lighting, composition, equipment and technical aspects of photography, directing families, managing challenges during a session, etc. We'll also spend time editing together, talking about running a photography business, and more. Nothing is off-limits. Our time will be full of conversation and hands-on learning from start to finish.

Q: Do you have more workshops planned for other locations?

The goal is absolutely to host workshops in other locations around the US. I do not have any specific plans at this time, but if you have a request, I'd love to hear it. Reach out and let me know where you'd like me to travel to!

If you haven't visited SLC but are considering this workshop, you should know that it's a fantastic area for an event like this. The airport is large and offers many flights from all over the country and internationally, plus the city and surrounding landscape is beautiful and easily accessible - the gorgeous mountain views you'll see in local photographers' images are right around town and stretch for many miles. There are also many fantastic studio options in the case of inclement weather, plus good food and lots of activities if you'd like to turn your trip into a mini-vacation.

I'm Hannah.

I've been a family and newborn photographer since 2014, and I have a passion for equipping other photographers to succeed.

I spent several years running a business that, quite honestly, crushed me. I never felt good enough. I never had enough clients. I never made enough money. I was alone, and I really didn't know where to go next. Often, I wanted to quit.

Thankfully, the story didn't end there: I made major changes to my business and transformed it, and raised my prices above four figures (with no IPS or sales!). Not only did my art flourish and my business thrive - so did my family. I went from contributing modestly to our family, to retiring my husband from a toxic career and fully supporting our family of six.

It didn't happen overnight, but it DID happen. And I am absolutely over the moon that I get to teach other photographers to thrive - on a much faster timeline and with none of the pain!

If I did it, you can too.
