Welcome to Untethered Education & Community — a photography publication created to celebrate the heart of family photography and the artists behind it.
I have been waiting for (and working toward) this day for months now – and I finally get to share: there’s a new family photography publication on the block, and a mini rebrand of my this site to go with it!
Untethered is a space designed to uplift, connect, and empower. Whether you’re just starting out or you’re years into your journey, the hope is that you’ll see yourself reflected here – that your confidence will deepen, that your knowledge will expand, and that our corner of the industry will feel more welcoming and connected.
Family Photography Publication: Introducing Untethered Photography Education and Community

What exactly is Untethered family photography publication?
Untethered is made up of two important pieces: educational offerings & the community publication.
None of the educational offerings are changing – you’ll find the same well-loved courses, guides, mentorships, and coaching program as always! And my free resources continue to expand as my blog grows and as I create additional free content. I have wanted to have a name for my the education side of my business, and this change provides that as well.
The other piece is all new, and I am SO, so excited about it! The Untethered Community is a brand new publication for family and newborn photographers to learn and connect – and get featured and share their work! It’s a space to be encouraged and empowered, and also to encourage and empower others. The community content includes lighthearted Q&As as well as articles from photographers of all stages about growth, mindset, perseverance, and so much more.
And for those of you wanting to add to the list of spaces you’ve been featured, this is your chance!
There’s something different about Untethered – no social media.
Lord knows we need a break from social media, right? Nearly every photographer I speak with is united in this opinion: we just want to spend a little less time on our apps.
Of course we don’t want to miss out on connection or inspiration or learning! Friendships and community are invaluable. But we want our mental health back. We want to ditch the doom-scrolling. We want to feel connected – without being overwhelmed by feelings of comparison, getting sucked into distracting reels, and being bombarded by unending ads.
(And yes, IG is great for getting clients! But it’s a tool that I use with lots of boundaries and as little as possible.)
I have long dreamt of hosting a photography publication, but there was no chance that I could run another social media account – it’s tough enough to keep up with my current account! I also couldn’t seem to reconcile my longstanding discomfort with social media use with my desire to create a community publication.
It finally dawned on me that social media isn’t necessary for a publication. It sounds obvious, but opting out of social media is really uncommon these days, and it’s not necessarily the easy route to take. A publication that is purely blog-based in 2025 will have an uphill climb when it comes to gaining followers and visiblity… but easy does not equal healthy. Easy does not equal good. Easy does not equal necessary.
So here we are: Untethered will not have an Instagram or other social media account, at least not in the future that I am able to see from this moment. There will be no hashtags or weekly IG features. Untethered will be a space where we can be untethered from distractions, comparisons, phones, and doom-scrolling. 😉
I will continue to post on my photography account, of course! And this community will be mentioned there from time to time. And if you are featured, please know that you’re welcome and encouraged to share on your own social media! It’s a great way to get a feature noticed by your audience and help build their confidence in you!
The main way to stay up to date on submissions is through my newsletter, where new features will always be shared. And of course you can come back here anytime to see if there’s new content!
Want to submit?
I would absolutely love to have you! Untethered Community Features are not session-based, but rather article-based, and they will include a Q&A and assorted images alongside the article. Photographers of all stages – beginner to expert – are encouraged to consider submitting. Your experience is valuable, and you have a voice with which you can uplift others.
If you want to get featured but struggle to write, please don’t despair! This is easier than you probably think, and I have some great tips plus full guidelines here. All you need is the desire to add good to our industry!
Let’s get this party started!
Untethered is officially live! The community space already has some great content for you to browse, and there will be more released over the coming weeks.
I’d love to hear what you think, so don’t hesitate to reach out! My hope is for this to be encouraging and uplifting and peaceful – a space to simply enjoy. Everything I do is designed to make this industry healthier and your journey easier. I’m so glad you’re here!
