The clothing our clients wear has a HUGE impact on our final images, and it can absolutely affect how elevated our work feels. In fact, the right styling can help you advance your offerings to the next price point — while the wrong styling will keep you stuck.
I’ll be transparent: this used to make me very uncomfortable! I have four kids, and we shop smart — no fancy brands on the growing kids in my house. And though I love a good outfit, I’ve never been focused on designers or status symbols. So when I first started honing in on this aspect of my work many years ago, I actually worried that I was being too shallow somehow, or that I was prioritizing something I didn’t actually value.
But fear not, friend! Styling for photos is so different than following every trend, signing onto a value system you don’t align with, or judging anyone. Styling our sessions is simply an extension of our art — and it is fun and powerful!
With time, I came to realize that providing wonderful clothing for my clients to wear, being honest with them about how much it affects their photos, and also being able to guide them through the planning, never made them feel like I was being shallow — it made them feel amazing! My clients feel so much confidence knowing they can trust me to style them, and they are still comfortable enough to show up in sweats or leggings for our wardrobe appointments.

There are some brands I love that are already popular with photographers, like Nothing Fits But and Doen. But my favorite retailer is actually one that most people I talk to haven’t yet heard of — and that I’ve been loving for years!
Few Moda offers a huge variety of beautiful pieces at very reasonable prices for members. I shop for myself and my client closet here, and have found many pieces that remind me of more expensive brands (without being cheap knock-offs). I’ve converted some of my clients to shopping here as well!
Below, I am sharing some of my favorite Few Moda dresses for late winter/early spring sessions. These are all moderately priced (the membership cost is definitely worthwhile), and look very similar to much more expensive designers like Staud, Reformation, Doen, and more.
